Plastic Waste Management Rules Amended
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has via a notification dated March 27, 2018, notified the Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules 2018 (“Amended Rules”). The Amended Rules lay down that multi-layered plastic (as defined under the Rules) which is non-recyclable, non-energy recoverable or with no alternate use has to be eased out. The Amended Rules further prescribe a central registration system for the registration of the producer/importer/brand owner and state that any mechanism for registration should be automated and should take into account ease of doing business for producers, recyclers, and manufacturers.
Law Commission on BCCI
The Law Commission of India (“the Commission”) in its 275th Report titled “Legal Framework: BCCI vis-a-vis Right to Information Act, 2005” has recommended that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (“BCCI”) be viewed as an agency or instrumentality of State, under Article 12 of the Constitution, thereby making it amenable to the writ jurisdiction of the Supreme Court under Article 32. The Commission has further recommended that the BCCI should be held accountable, under all circumstances, for any violations of basic human rights of the stakeholders and that the RTI Act be made applicable to BCCI along with all member state cricketing associations affiliated to BCCI.
Cryptocurrency Firm Files Petition Against RBI
Kali Digital Ecosystems Pvt. Ltd., the operators of the crypto-exchange CoinRecoil, have filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the April 06, 2018 Reserve Bank of India circular titled “Prohibition on dealing with Virtual Currencies”. The petition claims that this circular is violative of Articles 19(1)(g) and 14 of the Constitution of India.
